The key to Reiki is its simplicity. Where other forms of therapy may demand months and years of training for the practitioner, Reiki can be taught in a weekend. To a person who is still very attached to the intellect as a means of learning, and is conditioned that learning takes time, Reiki can be disconcerting. The real difference is in the attunement process which puts Reiki in the category of energy work. Reiki is a process of empowerment, something which western culture has had little acquaintance with since the age of reason. After having been through the attunement process, most nurses, doctors, massage therapist, and people well-acquainted with the touch and feel of the human body, notice immediate increases in the amount of energy or the feeling of heat emanating from their hands when doing treatments. Thus people with prior experience of the body usually receive immediate feedback of the change which occurs as a result of the attunements, not to mention the sensations which sometimes accurs during the actual attunements. Others with less experience or sensitivity need time and practice doing treatments to learn to perceive the changes immediately. Actually most people do, it is simply that those with too many preconceived notions need to learn how to listen to the body, because a successful treatment requires a listening process.
Like other therapies, it seek to help each individual find balance and harmony in the body, mind , and spirit. Reiki is truly a gift to yourself-when you participate in a Reiki class you are acknowledging on some level: " I am ready to empower myself." The power to co-create is your birthright. With that power comes the privilege of greater responsibility, and a greater sense of unity with your earth family. |
